I Put My Faith in the People and Not the State

The RNC Daily

COMMENTARY

It is often said that Canadians do two things better than Americans, hockey and health care. It is true that everyone in Canada gets “free” on entry health care, whether they are rich or poor. But who gets better health care than the Canadian people and have shorter waiting periods for essential services, like CAT scanners? The pets of Canadians!

Since there is more competition for the health care for pets, pet insurance companies and pet hospitals have to actively try and provide better services, at a cheaper price. Because pet health care is not regulate at all, far less than American healthcare, these competing companies can prove a cheaper and more effective service than the Canadian health service for the pet owners. State monopolies make public services political, and more often than not, governments cave into the demands of interest groups.

My whole point is that the freemarket is better at providing services than governments. I personally think that Titulia should not go down the road of governments providing public services, at the risk of becoming to big powerful. As President Gerald Ford once said, “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have”.

So why are some Titulians so eager to hand their freedoms to the government?

It has been asked for the government to provide chat rooms, yet I have provided these privately. It has been asked for the government to provide religious services, yet I have provided these privately. It has been asked for the government to provide a newsstand, yet I have provided these privately. It has been asked for the government to provide banks, these have been provided privately by others.

If you can think of something that Titulia needs to function better, provide it yourself, or at least let the business community be aware of the market demand.
